Vivat Academia maintains a digital preservation policy designed to support the long-term preservation, integrity, availability, and accessibility of the content published by the journal.

Preservation covers the digital content and files associated with publication and is supported through backup mechanisms and external digital preservation systems, with the aim of reducing the risk of data loss and facilitating content recovery in the event of technological contingencies or the possible discontinuation of the journal’s activities.

Long-Term Preservation

Vivat Academia uses Open Journal Systems (OJS) as its editorial management and publishing platform and participates in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP) for the long-term digital preservation of journals published using OJS.

PKP PN uses LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) technology, based on a distributed preservation model that maintains copies of content in different locations and enables recovery and continued availability in the event of circumstances that compromise access to the original publication. The journal keeps its LOCKSS interface enabled to facilitate access by preservation systems to its published content.

The preservation status and coverage of Vivat Academia may be consulted through the international preservation records associated with its ISSN 1575-2844, including The Keepers Registry. 

In addition, Vivat Academia is subject to Spanish legislation on the legal deposit of online publications, in accordance with Law 23/2011 of 29 July on Legal Deposit, as amended by Law 8/2022 of 4 May, and Royal Decree 635/2015 of 10 July.

Within this framework, the journal facilitates the automated harvesting of its content by the National Library of Spain (Biblioteca Nacional de España) and other competent preservation institutions, in accordance with the selection and preservation procedures established by these institutions.

Preservation and Continuity Measures

As a complement to external preservation, the journal applies technical and organisational measures aimed at protecting its digital files and ensuring their continuity. These measures may include backups, integrity checks, maintenance and updating of the technological infrastructure and, where necessary, migration or adaptation of formats and systems.

These measures may be reviewed and updated in response to technological developments, the needs of the journal, and applicable best practices in digital preservation.

Persistent Identification and Access

Published articles are assigned persistent digital identifiers (DOIs), which facilitate their identification, location, and permanent linkage to their bibliographic metadata.
